Button set up for the Fujifilm GFX100RF

I do photography as well. It is quite a creative activity to say the least. However, to help that activity work, it really needs to be supported by systemic processes. Starting with the camera when the image is first captured.

Taking a photo is influenced by a number of things

  • when one pushes the button
  • where one stands
  • what effect one is trying to achieve (varying film simulations)
  • how one frames the image (by varying the aspect ratio)
  • how much light is available (by varying the shutter speed, iso and aperture)

To that end, the camera is the tool.

Similar to any other tool, the operater and tool need to he at one to work efficiently and effectively.

And with the couple of Fujifilm cameras I use, it is paramount for me to be able to vary the amount of light hitting the sensor. With my eye to the sensor, I rely on tactile and have set up the controls as below.

Action Fujifilm X-H2 Fujifilm GFX100RF
aperture Aperture ring Aperture ring
shutter speed Back command dial Back command dial and Shutter Speed Dial set to C
sensitivity (ISO) Front command dial Front command dial varies ISO (first use Fn2 to toggle what the Front Command dial does)
aspect ratio Fn4 button Front command dial varies Aspect Ratio (first ensure that Aspect Ratio Dial is set to C and then use Fn2 to toggle what the Front Command dial does)
film simulations Fn5 button Control Ring
